RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – The USA Squash
team has drawn its pairings for the opening day of competition
at the Pan American Games.
American players Chris Gordon, Julian
Illingworth and Michelle Quibell received
their draws for the start of competition on Saturday at the Miecimo da Silva
Sport Complex in Rio. Natalie Grainger is the #1 seed in the Women's Draw and
got a bye to the Quarter Finals.
The singles competition will run from Saturday through
Monday with the team competition to start Tuesday.
Gordon is scheduled to face Peru’s Mauricio Dasso
on Saturday morning at 10. Quibell will face Argentina’s
fifth-seeded Luz Etchechoury at 11 a.m.
Illingworth will face the winner of Argentina’s Robertino
Peczota and Venezuela’s Luis Hernandez at 6 p.m.
Saturday.
Quibell faces off with Luz Etchechoury (ARG) in the first
round.
Grainger will face the winner of Michelle
and Etchechoury's match. This is an unfortunate seeding
placement for Quibell should she get through the first round.
USA's Latasha Khan, and 2003 Pan Am Individual Gold Medalist,
is not participating in the Individuals but will be in Rio
for the Team event.
The USA Squash team
planned to take part in the Opening Ceremonies at the
Maracana Stadium late Friday afternoon.
