Article The youngest son of american
squash is a fan of Ivete Sangalo
RIO DE JANEIRO, July 12 - Happy with his
first trip to Rio and with his debut in the Pan-american
games, the youngster of the american squash team, 20 year
old Christopher Gordon, told us that he knows very little
about the Brazilian culture. He also enjoyed the work of
one current chart topping brazilian singers. (Ivete Sangalo)
"I like Ivete Sangalo very much. A
Brazilian friend of mine that lives in New York gave me
a CD of hers, mentioned Chris, citing the song "Carro
Velho" (Old Car) as one of his favorites.
Showing good humor, the American also said
that he loved the first dessert he ate in the Vila Pan-Americana,
at dinner on Monday night.
"I ate cheese with goiabada(like marmalade).
Delicious."
Gordon is thoroughly enjoying his first
few days in Rio.
"Everything has been fantastic: The
Vila Pan-Americana, the delicious foods and the people,
who are very hospitable. This is my second time in Brazil.
Two years ago, I played in Goiânia, and certainly
this is one of my top four favorite countries to play in.
Along with Spain, Greece, and the United States of course",
revealed the second ranked American player.
About the chances of medaling in RIO 2007,
Chirs does not see the team as the principal favorite. Not
the men anyway. "On the womens side i think we are
the favorites. But, on the mens I see Brazil, Mexico, Colombia
and Canada as teams of equal strengths. Any one can win
it. Its going to depend on how each selection will play
during RIO 2007. If we play well we can be the champions.
But we have to fight a lot" foresees the player.
When asked about what he would like to get
to know in the Rio if there was time leftover, Chris revealed
his wish to visit a few of the main Postcard locals in the
marvelous city.
"If there were time, I would like to
visit Pão de Açúcar (Bread of Sugar),
the Corcovado and a few beaches, like Copacabana",
told the American, who will be 21 next Tuesday.
In the XV Pan-American games, the squash
will be debated, after Saturday, at the Complexo Esportivo
Miecimo da Silva, in Campo Grande.
